what is the name of this workout?

Sunday, January 1st, 2012

It is always done in olympic weightlifting where you have the barbell. Then you have to lift it over your head and keep there for a couple of seconds. Also what muscles is that working out?

Can you use Olympic weights on a standard bench?

      Thursday, December 29th, 2011

I’ve recently bought some weights and a barbell, but they’re Olympic. I didn’t know there was a difference, and Olympic benches cost a lot more. My question is, can I just buy a standard bench and use my olympic bar/weights on it? Or do I have to buy an Olympic bench?

          Question about Barbell end-sheaths?

          Thursday, September 15th, 2011

i have a barbell at home, but the diameter is a bit small. i want to buy a 7′ olympic bar. i some plates, but they will only fit on a barbell with 1" (i think, somewhere around there) diameter ends. ive also noticed that the end sheaths of the olympic bars screw off. does this allow for plates that have a smaller diameter? and if so, what is the diameter? thanks

            Wednesday, September 14th, 2011

Okay..I keep getting mad and changing my workout routine. Im scared that im not working every muscle. Ive been lifting weights for about 7 months. I can see a huge difference. Im out there for about an hour everyday. I have dumbells, olympic barbell, bench for barabell plus leg exstensions and leg curl things on it, workout gloves, 300lbs worth weights, abb mat (where i do situps and crunches and leg raises). So i need to know how long i should workout everyday and a workout routine. Should it be simple? Mine is very confusing and it pisses me off. I need this muscle i need a cardio. PLEASE JUST HELP ME PLEASE! btw im 16 and should raise the amount of weights every week or what please be detailed and explain what muscle they work ill give you points or w/e i can help with. Thank You.

weightlifting for sports and in general for a 15 year old?

              Tuesday, September 6th, 2011

ive been doing plyos since the 6th grade…started doing pushups and situps(bodyweight stuff) in the 7th..and in the 8th i worked into doing a few dumbell excersises…9th i started doing full on dumbell workouts…going into 10th my friends said itd be good for my work ethic to go before school and lift. but they are football players im a basketball player but they say that cleans/jerks/shrugs/deadlifts/squats i.e barbell and olympic stuff will make me faster ALOT stronger and jump higher…my main goal of my training has always been to be flexible, fast, good balance and mainly JUMP HIGHER.
now i have a couple questions. 1- can do this stunt my growth? the things before never stunted my growth. im almost 16.
2- if you do form correctly is it still really hard on joints and is it even worth to do it,(are the gains good enough?)
3-if not all that what would you recommond?
please no spam, im trying to get alot stronger im a lanky kid i need to get more explosive i feel plyometrics help but this will help me get to the NEXT level..in terms of speed strength etc.
              no spam, thanks

When it comes to weight lifting, is it really so bad to work out on machines?

                Saturday, August 13th, 2011

Does a person really get a lot stronger using free weights instead of machines?

I do a few lifts with Nautilus machines at the gym. With the machines I do the chest press, the fly, the shoulder press, and the row. With free weights I do squats, deadlifts, curls, reverse curls, and a few other lifts. The reason why I do the chest press on a machine is because I can rarely find someone to properly spot me when I am doing the bench press the conventional way with barbells and the olympic size bar. I like to max out and I can’t max out without a spotter. I have the same problem sometimes with the front squat. I can’t find two people to properly spot me when I do the front squat the conventional way with the barbells and the bar.

Note: I put this question in the Physics section because weight lifting and physics do go hand in hand and I also put it in this category because I don’t really get any answers when I put a weight lifting question in the Sports (Other) category or the Health (Diet & Fitness) category.

How much can this weightlifting bar safely hold? Not sure?

                  Friday, August 12th, 2011

                  Hi
I have a 5ft hollow steel weightlifting barbell, and I’m starting to get a lot stronger. Besides the fact that I’m running out of space for weights on the bar, I’m worried that it might give out. That’s a bad thing when its suspended above my chest. :P
I can fit a max of 70kg (about 155 pounds) on the bar, but it only came with about 35kg. It flexes a little, should I be worried? I fully intend to buy a new bar (6ft olympic – no strength worries there), but in the meantime, is my current one safe?
                  Thanks
